I originally bought this meter to quickly and easily discharge end of life batteries completely before discarding them. Turns out I use it regularly now to balance the items after charging. Some chargers are much better than others at completing a charge cycle that charges every battery cell to the same level. The Syma X8C charger doesn't handle this very well as it works well up to a certain level and then stops charging one cell at a time. If I catch it in time it's fine, but if I let go before the little charge light goes out, one cell will be more charged than the other. So before use I plug this meter in, turn on the balancing function and after 20 minutes the cells are within 0.01 volts of each other. The only reason for the 4 star rating and not 5 is that it cannot run on single cell batteries (like the Syma X5 battery and others). It should have been in the product description, but I missed it. So I use one of my tiny $4 voltmeters (with a voltage level alarm) to check the charge level on these batteries, and to drain the old single cell batteries I put a small load on the bulb. I'm not sure why this counter can't work with a single cell, but it doesn't.
