In fact they may be too big for some purposes. I thought they were a good size for my application. I think each set of letters/numbers requires some practice. Maybe more than practice to get good results. I ended up making a 2x2 wood jig with square holes to keep the punches in line. I glued the 2x2 ends to the blank so they don't move after being hit. Worked very well. Otherwise, I could not achieve consistent spacing, orientation, and alignment without the device. It also eliminated the possibility of getting slapped on my arm because I didn't have to take the punch. This allowed me to swing the hammer harder
