For the past few years, I've ridden an exercise bike pointed at me with a Vornado Air Circulator. It worked well to avoid overheating, but after more than an hour my shirt and head were soaked with sweat. With Lasko I have a dense column of air from the waist to the crown of my head, which not only keeps me cool but also makes me drier. When I bought the U12104 I was worried that I might get a bigger and more powerful version. Not at all. In fact, I only use this on medium or lowest settings because that's all I need. The room needs to be fairly warm for me to use the highest setting. As far as noise goes, I wouldn't call it quiet, but it's far from annoyingly loud. The only thing I had to get used to was the sound of the air blowing in my ears and coming off the floor right in my face. It's ok from the outside, but takes a little getting used to inside.
