Upgrade a 2014 Tivo Roamio 500GB Series 5 to 3TB in about 30 minutes. No problem. Did an easy upgrade, just removed the old drive and kept it - just in case there were problems in the future - then put "rails" on the new drive, installed, put the cover back on and plugged it in. Wait a moment . The Series 5 will fully format a new blank 3TB drive for you (when it sees a blank drive) and if you're connected to the internet it will look up your MAC number in the file and register the device again. Maybe with the latest updates it will make the drive even bigger, but I just chose "light" - I know from previous reviews that 3TB will definitely work. After the installation took a while, you'll need to rescan the TV channels and go through some other setup steps like you did when you first bought it, but that doesn't matter if you have different logins on hand, you should. Make a list of shows you want to include. You'll have to re-sign them all if you go this route. If you don't have basic tools to get the job done, go to Revain, Best Buy, Micro Center, Fry's, etc. and buy a basic little set of Torex tools for less than $10. You only need the two most common sizes, but get a set because who knows, you might have a weird ballscrew. This is a very simple upgrade. If you're confused or forgot something, just put the old disc back in and review your old settings and impressions until you're satisfied. I didn't want to do a more complicated upgrade where you copy the old drive to the new drive and then use Windows software to "extend" the drive so Tivo can use the entire new drive instead of the "old" drive size sees. I didn't have a windows computer and didn't have that many shows that interested me anymore. Maybe, next time. This is a quality disc compared to many cheaper by just a few dollars. I don't expect any problems but I will update the review if there are any.
