Failure after 6 years

converter/charger works great. I think this is one of the best. This unit was purchased to replace an identical unit that broke in my RV after 6 years. As an electronics engineer, I simply had to do a fault analysis of the failed element and found that the reason for the failure was that the large capacitors were not connected. The only thing holding these heavy components to the PCB were 2 small diameter (maybe 0.030" diameter) capacitor pins. Eventually, with all the vibration that comes with an RV, the wires broke. These capacitors had to be attached to the circuit board. Circuit board with a splice, clip or multiple "dummy solder pins". I looked through the cooling grid and saw that the circuit board layout is different on my new charger, however the connection on the capacitors is still not visible. The body is covered in rivets that would need to be drilled out so I could go in and glue them myself. I just hope this charger lasts longer than the original. Electrically perfect - mechanically not perfect.

Pros
  • Undervoltage protection in the mains protects the device from damage in the event of undervoltage peaks
Cons
  • The list is long.
