These little herringbone zips are the bees' knees. This is necessary to maintain a consistent appearance in the event of cable modifications or changes. Additionally, they really help keep things from moving when the piece of wood is fully seated in the hole. If the tree is too long, just shorten it a bit and you're done. After a few uses and a few pulls, they seem to be holding up decently and should be fairly recyclable until they eventually become brittle. Too bad I didn't find them sooner. Everything would look a lot nicer in the engine bay and under the dash. would recommend.
