Great for pencil case
My 8 year old uses it as a pencil case. (It actually only contains crayons, but that's what they call it anyway.) I bought him a more traditional plastic box first, which broke after about a week. They don't keep them in their class, so they come home in his backpack every day, which might explain why the plastic ones aren't that good. It's very cute and holds up great.
