Review on Xiaomi Redmi 8 4/64 GB Global Smartphone, Ruby Red by Iori Yagami ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well done, but I wont buy any more.

I initially chose a compact phone with a capacious battery to replace Redmi 4. Unfortunately, I did not find a good replacement. Xiaomi no longer produces compact phones (not even non-Note is still a shovel like this one), phones with a metal case and with an excellent battery capacity / size ratio. It looks like this is the last Xiaomi I bought. Because of the bloatware, I immediately rooted the phone. Further, Android 9 is normally backed up through TWRP and you can remove the excess. You can install Android 10, but it is encrypted and I failed to encrypt it, and I can’t backup an encrypted phone. Backup is important to me, so I rolled back to Android 9, where you can save. Starting with Android 10, encryption is already default and hard to turn off. Together with advertising software and the lack of the ability to backup, I will not move on to Android 9. Total: the phone is good, but controversial. I did not find a replacement for the "old" compact capacious metal phones with simple androids, the question of choosing a phone is open.

Pros
  • Lots of storage for a relatively small device. Reasonable price. Can insert 2 SIM cards + microSD
Cons
  • Fairly large sizes. This despite the fact that I initially chose the smallest possible phone and this one turned out to be one of the most compact. Unfortunately, the world is going in the direction of "shovels". Plastic case. After a while it starts to scratch. Stupid Redmi inscription on the front side. A lot of adware and extra software (bloatware).
