Update September 2018, 1 year later: It's standing in bad weather and everything worked great for a year of use on our road; very cold winters and very hot summers. I recently changed the batteries, but I did it as a precaution, not because the batteries were dead. We move in and out at least 4-5 times a day, the kids ride our bikes several times a week, plus a few trips to the mailbox. The only thing to watch out for is that when changing the battery the little screws will fall out if you're not careful, so I put a white towel underneath as our alarm clock is mounted on a pole with pine straw underneath. Great product and it was great, highly recommend. You can see my full review below. REVIEW: After researching several products, including much cheaper alternatives, I finally settled on this particular brand/model. We use this specifically to warn us of cars pulling into our driveway. If you want to use this for security reasons, note that the sensor will flash red when motion is detected, which can be seen at night. After two weeks of use I can highly recommend this device and here are my pros, cons and learnings after a few weeks of use: Pros/discoveries: β’ Easy to set up and install. Read the instructions first! β’ The transmitter can easily be attached anywhere. We used a 4" x 4" machined pole mounted about 3'6" off the ground. The post is over the top but it looks beautiful. β’ Doesn't seem to get many false positives but takes everything within the range of the sensor having enough motion to trigger the sensor (as it should). There was an alarm in two weeks time that we never saw the cause of the alarm. Something could have damaged the sensor. We have one too Sprinkler system that sprays water on the sensor and never fires, which is good β’ Mount the sensor at least 3-4 feet off the ground to avoid most dogs, cats, squirrels, etc. and do not place on metal I would also not place it near/in range of bushes/branches or similar objects that can move with the wind β’ Adjust sensitivity distance on the sensor (to do this, loosen the four screws on the sensor) Our driveway is for a car off so I lowered the sensitivity level to 23ft (default is 39ft). Options are 13ft, 23ft, 26ft and 39ft. β’ You can easily adjust the angle of the sensor after installation. β’ Has a low battery sensor indicator that flashes inside the receiver. β’ Easily add other sensors as needed. up to 16 (4 for each zone). β’ Conventional batteries are used. The sensor runs on four AA batteries (should last a year); The receiver requires four AAA batteries and/or an electrical outlet. The receiver can be connected to the mains with built-in batteries, which serve as a backup battery in the event of a power failure. β’ The receiver has a variety of tones to choose from (30) and can be very loud when the volume is set to the maximum. β’ No range problems. since our sensor is only 150 feet from the receiver but goes through a few walls. β’ Our sensor is installed outdoors without any additional coatings. According to the instructions it can be installed anywhere outdoors and I see no need to put the sensor in a protective case β’ I like that the sensor's detachable top section protects the sensor from the elements and sunlight β’ Provide 12 volt power supply. A relay is a good option for communicating with alarms, gates or whatever else you can do. β’ The receiver is easy to turn on and off. For example, if I leave the house very early on the weekend, I turn it off so I don't wake my family when I leave the house. β’ A small screwdriver was included, perfect for removing the tiny screws inside the sensor to insert the battery and adjust sensitivity. CONS: β’ I thought the sensor was encased in heavier PVC (aka heavier plastic). But it has a lifetime guarantee as long as the company is in business. β’ Wish there were more sensor color options. For example black, white and camouflage. β’ Concerned about losing small screws when adjusting sensitivity and/or changing battery in sensor after installation. Our sensor is mounted over a bed of pine straw, so when I opened the case I had to place a white towel under the unit to finally set the sensitivity. It would be nice if the sensor came with screws that don't fall out when unscrewed. β’ The receiver isn't particularly pretty to look at, but we managed to place it in the middle of the house and not as conspicuously. β’ There are over 30 melodies available, but we were hoping for more ringtones/chimes similar to the doorbell options. Many of them are song melodies that we didn't like. Overall very satisfied and highly recommended. I'd like to see a Wi-Fi enabled version for smartphone notifications if needed. I will update this review if anything changes.
