I bought this to upgrade my late 2008 Macbook. The original 160GB drive was a Hitachi which seemed fine until I tested this one. It's sooo quiet, cool and the 4.5 year old battery seems to last a little longer. how to update the drive. I followed the advice, it took forever and there were too many unnecessary steps. My suggestions: (1) Replace the hard drive according to Apple's instructions; (2) Install the old drive in a $10 USB enclosure; (3) Boot the computer from the old hard drive (hold down the option key while booting); (4) partition the newly installed riv using Disk Utility; (5) Restore settings via Time Machine or, even easier, the old hard drive is already connected. Important NOTE. You must log in as a different user than the one you are restoring. I created a new admin user after learning it the hard way, but it would be better to do that before replacing the drive. Again, the drive works great for me, and for very little money, my old MacBook should work. a few more years.
