Vornado has been around since the 1940s and has been passed on to me I have two old Vornado fans, late 40s or early 50s. Works perfectly, after approx. 70 years. And they're incredible fans like nothing's available today (except maybe the new Vornado). They move some serious air, not like a fan that moves air a little bit, they shoot air around the room. But in the 40's and 50's they didn't care about little fingers like we do today and both fans have holes big enough to fit a small adult hand and metal blades. We don't have little kids anymore, not because of the fan, they've grown up and pulled out 10 fingers each. But when I saw that Vornado had built a heater, I was hooked. I didn't know they made heaters. This is a shop fan/heater. It has a metal base with large legs and is slightly off the ground. I tried not to tip over but felt solid enough when I pushed the buttons. It has a long extension cord (8 feet) so it doesn't need to be placed next to an outlet. And for a store lover, that's not unattractive. This is probably not what I would want in my living room, but it will work for a basement or garage. The green color on the back even reminds me of the old Vornado green fan. But it has a few downsides. There are two switches on the front. You turn the fan on and off. The other switch has 3 positions. There is only one fan in the middle, one side has weak heat, the other side has higher heat. If you were using it where you had good insulation (like a basement) I would wish it had a thermostat. Not much temperature control with two settings and one off. It's quiet when it's on (which is a plus) but doesn't blow air like a Vornado fan. It's more like a regular fan. Of course, the heat will come out and blow 5-6 feet in front of it, but not across the room. This lack of air movement doesn't make the fan setting very good. It would have been nice to have the air movement of the old Vornado that could have been given some warmth. Maybe a little more air movement than a few other portable electric heaters I have, but not by much. It has a tilt handle (yellow), but it only tilts a little (product description says 30 degrees), which is just a few inches up or down, not much. This happens in my garage. I work there when it's cold and it would be nice if some warm air blew around me. I was genuinely hoping this could be used in my basement, but without a thermostat it would probably just be too hot or too cold and I'd adjust from low to high. 4 stars because they are a very good company with a long history. I hope this product lasts half as long as the others I've had from them, but without the power of their fans to move the air it becomes just another electric heater with no thermostat.
