I can't believe my life has come this far but I'm writing a review on diaper pails. But I feel like my insights into #2 are worth sharing, and while it might sound a little silly, I'm oddly in love with my diaper pail, decor. We have five children and over the years I have changed many diapers. The first diaper pail we got years ago was a diaper ghost and I was never a fan of that. My biggest complaint was that after changing the diaper, you had to push that smelly, disgusting, and sometimes otherworldly large diaper through the little hole in the mind... sort of squeezing to fit the little hole that was often caused. "Spillage," which causes feces to get on your hand, on a bucket, and generally in places you don't want to poop. Remember, you're doing this with a bundle of eternal joy in one hand, and at the same time lowering yourself to slip an unimaginably large diaper into an unimaginably small hole. Not an easy task. And that's how we discovered Decor. That's cool. Why? It's HANDS-FREE. game changer. It has a foot pedal that opens the bucket, then just throw the diaper through the hatch. That's all! Let me tell you, when it's 3am and you're zombified by sleep deprivation, you need to make this process as easy as possible. I shudder at the number of diapers I've changed over the years, but this diaper pail makes it so much easier than the Genie. We tested another bucket, the Ubbi, which costs a little more. and made of metal. I checked the store and it also requires you to bend down and open the door, put a diaper in and then close it when you're done. Kind of a pain you have to do every time you change a diaper. It's metal so it shouldn't pick up smells like a diaper genie, but Decor is ABS plastic, which doesn't pick up smells either, so I don't see it as a big deal. Also think of metal buckets. In my research (isn't it a bit sad that I researched? - we really need to shoot more) the manufacturer says to wipe down with a dry cloth. No detergents or even water. Okay, that's just gross. With Decor Clean, let's kill any germs that are around with any household cleaner. Packages. Different buckets have different systems. Someone uses household kitchen bags, someone uses cassettes with bags. Decor comes with a filled staff and in my opinion this is the way to go. You use what you need and then switch bags. We tried using a kitchen bag instead of filler in decor and it was fine, but to be honest we preferred filler. It's always there and ready to go, you only use what you need, and over time I bet it costs about the same. Stink. Machine. Stink. โ (Get ready for more wisdom). The feces stink. Shocking, isn't it? There's a reason every diaper pail that's been on the market more than a few months has tons of 1-star reviews. Check out all other products. Please note that they are all around 3.5 or 4 stars. Then click the 1 star link for each and you will see what I mean. You'll see dozens of people talking about how every product is terrible and every bucket is top notch. This is mainly because people have the unrealistic expectation that buying a diaper pail means you never have to smell like stale diapers. This is made worse by the fact that poop doesn't start smelling until your lump of eternal joy starts eating solid foods. So when you first bring your baby home, you think everything is great and the bucket is working great, and then all of a sudden the bucket is awful and awful and broken. Well it didn't break, it's just that your baby's poop didn't stink before, but it stinks now. The truth is no matter what you buy, you will smell like poop. Whether you open the lid or take out the bag, they all let out a bit of a stink. The decor is no different, it just allows less than the rest. Sometimes days go by between bag changes, other times we change them quicker because of one of those otherworldly poops. Decor's packaging says it contains 60 nappies. We might have come close with some newborn diapers, but when the poop got serious we never waited that long. Reading this again, I can't believe I just wrote a diaper pail manifesto. But I thought I'd share some of the knowledge I've gleaned from thousands of diapers. I just think Decor works. It's the easiest diaper pail to use and treats odors. I highly recommend it.
