My washing machine has had flood protection for many years and it is very reliable. Eventually I had a question and was able to speak directly to the owner/designer of the flood defense system; and he gave me advice and offered to replace the equipment for free if needed. After completing the basement and installing new flooring on the first floor, I decided I needed flood protection for the entire house. I used a shut off valve and water heater control and installed a valve on the main line in my house. and when I finished the basement, I ran wires everywhere in the house where there was a water source. I then install these sensors in every bathroom, sump, dishwasher, water heater, and refrigerator so that if there is a leak, they will automatically shut off the water and prevent flood damage. I also have a sewage pump and I installed a float valve in the sump so the flood control shuts off the water if the pump fails so I don't have a backup septic tank. I chose flood protection because it's inexpensive, reliable, and easy. The new controller has a battery backup and runs a test cycle every month.
