For people wanting to know the power consumption characteristics during startup using

I bought a 42 quart cooler but the next size up draws the same number of watts as stated in the brochure that was in the box . I bought it because I was concerned about the current spikes when turning on normal fridge/freezers, which may have forced me to buy a larger inverter than the one I already had at 1000w. I hooked this freezer up to a device that measures wattage, amps, high and low, and usage when you connect. This chiller has a 3 minute delay before the compressor kicks in when it is first turned on. When the compressor turns on (very quietly, by the way), the maximum power consumption according to the meter is 68 watts, which is amazing. (Conventional fridge freezers increase the operating power by about 3 to 7 times when the compressor is initially turned on at startup, which requires larger inverter capacity). When the compressor is running, it runs at about 45 watts in economy mode and 50 watts in maximum mode. The burst of 68 watts at start is the same in both economy and maximum mode. When the ideal temperature is reached (thank god it has a thermostat) you can hear the compressor turn off and it only consumes 0.07 watts; which I believe is used to illuminate the display. The display shows the current temperature inside the freezer and it's pretty easy to figure out how to toggle between Eco mode and Max mode. Worth the extra money so I don't have to buy a 2000w inverter for my solar system. Possibly capable of being powered by a 100 watt inverter. Crazy. Very happy with my purchase. Freezes containers of water overnight/12 hours at 9 degrees, eliminating the need to buy ice for the fridge. At 7 degrees with only two frozen ice buckets the compressor is running almost constantly so I would recommend topping it up with frozen items before traveling so the thermal mass will keep the freezer cool and use less power. . I will post more after the trip.
