I'm not sure about this filter

I've installed tens of thousands of spin filters in my life. I'm not sure I've ever felt so insecure about a filter. The top O-ring was too big, the threads didn't seem round, and the filter didn't fit into the filter head without a lot of effort. Then as it rotated there was contact on one side but there was a 0.025 inch gap on one side of the filter. It's on now, but I take my code reader with me to clear codes one by one on the way to NAPA or Autozone.
