The plastic is quite thick and you need to plan for that when .

Worked well. When working with tiles, I had to plan carefully to avoid small cuts, but I did it. I added a 1/2 inch cement board on the vertical side to allow the mosaic board to fit without too much fuss. Also, as mentioned, the plastic is quite thick and you need to take that into account when installing. In general, it's easier than creating your own niche. I wiped the inside with 60 grit and cleaned with rubbing alcohol in case there are mold spots or other things on the surface that might prevent the thin layer from sticking. We liked the black tile, it remains to fill it with a seam. After reading other reviews I thought of something else. I used Hardy Backer tile for the backing and it's not 1/2 inch thick. About 0.4 inch. If you lift the plate to the edge of the niche, a slight "curve" is created. It's not a big deal, but I somehow thickened the thin set by tapering it towards the edge I created so there wasn't a big angle right in the niche. I tapered the thin set by about 5-6 inches so the tapering isn't very noticeable. As another reviewer pointed out, "2 holes" requires a lot of mitering and whatnot. The black glass tile finish we liked was only available in smaller sizes and it took me 36 pieces to be cut to get what I wanted for the finish. It looks pretty good in the end and the double box look is elegant. If I made another one, it might take me longer to think about how to place accent tiles with and around it. You can make a beautiful addition that will come in handy in your soul.
