Useful hand warmer for chilly or cold days

I had one when I was younger (many eons ago!) and needed a hand warmer when walking my dog on a cold morning. I have both this item and the Kozy USB Rechargeable Hand Warmer. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PZ59MZE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I tested both with a Black and Decker heat detector. Both have fairly similar temperatures on Low and High Cozy settings. Both in the bag seem to hold around 102 degrees while inside they are 68 degrees. However, the Zippo requires some work to fill in the lighter fluid and then start the heater. The metal body heats up on the outside of the bag, but this can help on very cold days when wearing gloves if you are careful and heed the manufacturer's warning about use outside the bag. So be careful. Also, make sure you watch the video and read all the instructions to use it safely. The main disadvantage is that unlike the Kozy USB device, this heater cannot be easily switched on and off. And the cost of lighter fluid per use is not negligible. Especially if you use it every day in winter. I use them when I walk my dog for half an hour. So I don't need 6 or 12 hours of heat. I found there is an easy way to turn this off and also prevent the liquid from evaporating. I put the heating pad in the bag and then in the included plastic zipper (or use a zippered sandwich bag) and squeeze the air out so that when closed it quickly shuts off the oxygen flow and doesn't allow air to evaporate. Liquid. So far after a few uses this has been found to work to deactivate lighter fluid and prevent it from evaporating so you don't have to refill before each use. Of course you have to be very careful not to burn yourself on bare metal and if using a holdall make sure it is on a safe surface or in your shirt pocket until it cools. As always with any heat source, safety comes first! No problem with the hand warmer from Kozy. With that I designed a sleeve that helps retain heat and makes it less slippery. The seller of this item is considering a sleeve, but if they don't provide one, just use a thin (clean) tube sock and make the sleeve yourself. I slipped mine inside the foot and trimmed off the excess, then used Velcro (tm) to seal the top, laid it over the bottom so the lights could be seen and then marked with a marker where the button is. Or you can use a velvet pouch for jewelry. That works too! But both Kozy and Zippo devices are very useful, so I have both.
