I bought my first pair after slicing fingernails and fingertips with my mandolin. I use one glove at a time when slicing with my mandolin and can now slice down to the thinnest shave of an onion, a piece of celery or whatever I happen to be cutting. I have not (and will not) put to the ultimate test by intentionally seeing if I can manage to slice through the gloves with a knife. No need for that silliness. I also use when, for example, slicing a carrot into thick pieces. Put the glove on your dominant hand, hold the knife in the same hand and just cut through the carrot using your thumb and index finger. No more nicks on my thumb. Several years ago, I bought a mandolin for my elderly mother. She has refused to use it because she was afraid of cutting herself. I recently bought a second pair for her and what do you know? After demonstrating to her that she would have to TRY to cut herself with her mandolin, the 86 year old uses both products regularly! To clean, I just wash my hands very well with soap and water leaving the glove on. Once done, I pull the glove off, rinse thoroughly and hang to dry. Would recommend. Oh. also use when peeling veggies (like potatoes) with a vegetable peeler. Again, no more nicked fingernails or fingers.
