I consider this an "upgrade" of the original channel lock pliers as it grips tighter with less effort and is less prone to slipping. However, they have a different jaw angle, which means you need more headroom on the side to use them. If you like the original channellocks, you'll love them just as much, if not more. The quality feels premium, the grips don't feel flimsy and they hardly wear out over time. The old pivot bolt has been replaced with a rivet that shouldn't come loose on its own like bolts do. The profile of the jaws is better for gripping nuts or bolt heads than round objects, the shape of the jaws matches the corners of the bolt but they still grip round objects well.
