I don't think my mother's IS trunk lid ever opened so easily, even when it was brand new. I even have a hard time opening it. It stays upright, but it's quite difficult to get to this point. Now I can just press the trunk release button and lift it a bit with one finger and it will open all the way by itself. I never knew it had to be done. Installation is pretty easy, just a flat head screwdriver, pliers and 15 minutes of your time. A small amount of force is required to compress the new strut. There are tons of videos on YouTube showing the installation process. One note: I would leave a piece of wood to support the trunk lid or it could fall onto your back, as happened to me when I let go of one of the struts. Overall I am very satisfied with this product. Just a little disappointed that the new ones didn't come with the metal brackets shown in the photo, I was able to remove and reuse the original ones. The package was opened when I received them. I'm not sure if anyone bought it, opened it and returned it. It would also be nice if they came in a box, they came in a bubble mail box and the UPS driver handles them roughly, the plastic on the ends chewed up from the impact.
