Haven't tried the screw mount base but the suction cup base works better than any suction cup base device I've seen, strong, light weight, sturdy and the rubber stays in place too sharp/deep rounded Shape so that it cuts LOW at the highest possible setting; less deep will result in missing/fine exfoliation lines. I don't want to risk breaking it, but I suspect the thicker/wider "U" shape on the blade and depth gauge allows for a wider and shallower peel. I almost gave it a 5 because while it deserves 4.4 to 4.6, it doesn't deserve the top rating in the current design.
