Well made, bright white, no hotspots.

These LED bulbs are exactly what I was looking for. After much research I chose them based on the specifications of the LEDs used. As an EE, I looked up the LED spec. With 8 LEDs per lamp, these are some of the brightest lamps available in this form factor. They are bright white. That means they appear to be around 6000 degrees Kelvin (i.e. no blue or red tint in the light). Individual LEDs also have a very wide radiation characteristic, which means that the light from each LED is superimposed on the light from neighboring LEDs. For this reason there are no hotspots. Before installing them I applied 12 volts to one of them and did a quick hot spot test. You can't see the dim area from above, although the brightness above didn't matter to me. I just tested it out of curiosity. I installed six of these LED bulbs in my wife's Jeep Cherokee (two in the front dome light, two in the center dome light, and one on each side of the rear trunk). By the way, it looks like these bulbs will fit in the housings of two license plate lights. But after looking at how brightly they glow in the cockpit, I decided that not changing the license plate lights was the best part of the skill. What actually happened was that I was concerned that this might violate some state laws as the brightness might be too bright. Our Jeep will be trailing our RV through all 50 states for years to come, and the best part about the skills I mentioned was that I didn't want to risk breaking a law I didn't know existed. . The fact is that these lamps are very bright for their size. These bulbs are the maximum size for an incandescent version of this size. When installed, some of them even brushed the edge of the hole they had to go through, albeit slightly. But due to the form factor of these bulbs, if you run into such a problem and are having trouble getting the bulb through the hole, simply rotate the bulb 1/8 turn. The boards that form the shape of the lightbulb form a "+” (plus). So if you're trying to put them in a hole and rubbing them, then turning them 1/8th of a turn means the "+" (plus) becomes an "x". That was all I had to do to get the bulbs rubbing through the holes without even touching them. These bulbs are polarized (+/-) so they will only light up when plugged into the same polarity as the outlet. So if you have to remove the entire light dome like you would on a jeep, DO NOT put it back in until you are sure the light is working. If one or more bulbs don't work, simply pull that bulb out of its socket and rotate it 180 degrees so the contacts are reversed. However, if you have already installed the mount, you will need to remove it again. Just a word to the wise... The light inside the jeep is now at least three to four times brighter than when using stock bulbs. When the light in the jeep goes out, it is dimmed. If you watch them dim, you might see a single flicker just before the lights go out completely. Because this happens after the light has dimmed completely, you probably won't notice it unless you're looking directly at the dome when it happens. Incidentally, that single flicker is the same thing that happens with a completely different make and model of LED bulbs that I recently installed in my pickup truck. It's just the nature of the animal. These lamps must be compatible with CANBUS (error free). However, I did not check this (the operation of the ceiling is not reported to the on-board computer). I suppose I could try putting a bulb in the license plate light. At the time it just didn't occur to me. Would I recommend these pears to a friend? Absolutely. Brighter, cooler and uses less power. I also expect them to last significantly longer than OEM bulbs. But we'll just have to wait to find out. All in all, these lamps matched all my research and the price was right. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
