We've been using a propane heater on our patio, it puts our great heat, but the propane was getting expensive. We got this heater in the hopes it would replace the gas heater. It would work well if our patio were mostly enclosed and we had about 10 of them. It has about the same heat output as a regular old radiant space heater. The main difference is that this one sits higher than a regular space heater so you're even further away from the heat. If you intend to buy this for use on a patio, buy a thin blanket made of mesh instead. It'll be cheaper and keep you warmer.
