If you can see it, it's a grid. But a solid one that does exactly what it was designed to do. I've looked through a few of these from other companies that have either stretched out, been damaged by the sun, or had broken hooks. The folded elastic on the sides should lift when stretched and pulled out of shape like previous products. Plastic hooks are used but so far they have worked very well with no issues. It's too new for me to appreciate its durability, but so far I'm happy with it. It's a KTM (or Harley, if that's your thing) orange. With all the different stitches I've tried so far, this color will fade in the sun. It's just the nature of the beast I guess. The only odd thing (and this has nothing to do with the product itself) is that it comes in the cheap "pink" case (shown in the picture) that you would expect from Hello Kitty - not really the kind of packaging you expect a strong, durable mesh to securely fasten your belongings to the back of your motorcycle. It's a grille, but it's good for what you need it for.
