Tastes, smells and leaks

I'm a little suspicious of some reviews especially the taste/smell of the water. I have a few of these. When exposed to sunlight through significant exposure to the water it contains, the water will definitely have a different "plastic" taste/smell than the source. I waste more water than I should and just let it flow until the plastic smell of the water running down my arm goes away. One of the female ends of one of my hoses is also starting to leak in the pinch area below its connector, right from the start.
