Review on Juno Lighting Temperature Retrofit Downlight Lighting & Ceiling Fans by Jamie Parker

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Compact, cool, expensive.

recessed ignition is by no means known as luxurious or new. However, Juno Lighting has figured out how to make it cool again by adding Alexa capability and dimmable multicolored lighting. This particular version is even the result of a collaboration with JBL to add a speaker. It sounded cool enough for me to try, even if currently the only place we have 6" ceiling lights (recessed) is in pairs. Combining two Alexa hubs doesn't make sense, and the second will be an Alexa-enabled version, which saves some money too. I didn't have that option right away, so see if that brings stereo capability too. In any case, the installation is fairly easy as it is designed to retrofit existing 6" cans. However, the required adapter for plug-n-play installation was not included due to some references to California law. Adapters can be purchased separately or you can choose the version that includes them. Make sure that any wall switch that is present must not be a dimmer switch and must be "permanently" switched to "on" or "off". Such a smart device needs "permanent" power and a fan in the bathroom, which I recently reviewed. there was a great solution that unfortunately isn't available for Juno. It is a remote control in the form of a wall switch that is wireless but permanently installed. I really like this concept as lost remotes don't matter. Also, the smart part of using a smartphone isn't always convenient or useful. The Alexa module complements this with voice control, but not everyone prefers this or wants to invite Alexa (or Siri, etc.) to constantly listen. Anyhow, several reviews have described Juno setup issues, and while the app really isn't the most intuitive and took a few tries to set up, it ended up somewhere in the range of normal or slightly worse setup issues. In a family, a voice assistant is the only realistic way to interact with the speaker, and they're not always enthusiastic (especially at the end of the age spectrum).
