Bad attitude and loud banging

I keep finding myself in a situation where I don't look at negative reviews and rely on average. As mentioned in the 1 star 2 star reviews, there is no way to adjust this thing so that it doesn't close about 4 inches and slam with force. The screws holding this thing to the door popped out after a few hits. I screwed in a few larger screws that seem to hold, but the force you can slam the door with with this device is pretty frustrating.
