Review on πŸ”₯ Enhance CB Communication with FireStik FG4648-B Four Foot No-Ground Plane Antenna Kit (Black) by Stacy Watkins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent NGP antenna for CB and radio equipment

Good efficient top loading design. Easy installation and configuration. and at worst it's still under 2:1 at the bottom and top of the strip when I'm pinned to the back of my backpacker's stairs and a little over 2/3 of it is overhanging the roofline. (Not exactly the best place for an antenna, but it's the only place I can mount it without drilling holes in the RV and still keep it less than 13 feet off the ground). It has good reception and transmission properties. Does 35 miles with no problems. Top loading really helps this antenna shine. A good compromise if you don't have a baseplate or if you can't run the pen for height reasons. A note: follow the instructions carefully, the shield of the coax cable must not be grounded to anything at the end of the antenna! The coaxial cable has a termination loop on the transmitter side and will only work with this antenna. You can add length from the transmitter to the end of the special coaxial cable if needed, but do not cut the supplied coaxial cable as this would ruin it. The inner conductor crimp included in the scope of delivery is also quite wobbly and for this reason the kit only got 4 instead of 5 stars. I replaced it with a heavier one when I installed it. I also highly recommend sealing the injection point with a good quality RTV sealant after confirming proper installation. to protect against moisture. I didn't do it at first because it was a hot dry month when I put it on, but a sudden unexpected thunderstorm caused the SWR to increase significantly and it didn't go down until it dried up a few days later. Now that it's sealed it works great both wet and dry.

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • Vanishing
