Review on Enhance Your fitlet2 πŸ’ͺ with the Game-Changing FC-POED Facet Card by Don Taniguchi

Easy installation. It just works. Intel NIC!

Installed according to the instructions on the Compulab website. Installation was easy, but it turned out to be using a 2260 or 2280 size M.2 drive listed in the product documentation. I used 2242 and there is no clearance for this stop screw, only for longer sizes. I had a 2260 on hand to switch to. The instructions mention attaching a thermal pad to the M.2 drive, but it wasn't included. The only thermal pads came from the original Fitlet2 computer and were already taped to the original drive bracket. It doesn't seem to matter, but it would be nice if a spacer was included to create a thermal bridge from the M.2 drive to the computer's heatsink cover. I also chose not to screw in the two mounting screws that hold the FACET card in place as they displace the RJ45 jack with the case hole too much. I don't think they are needed as the case mount doesn't let the card move at all. It also runs noticeably hotter than on an external power supply, which is to be expected. It has been stable for a few days. I bought it to add a third interface to the OPNsense firewall and enable PoE. I was up and running in no time with this new network card connected to my PoE switch. You can see in my attached picture that only the yellow WAN cable and the blue LAN (PoE) cable are connected to this computer. Very clean! FYI, if you don't need the PoE function, please buy another FACET card that adds two extra network adapters (FC-M2LAN).

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • A lot of things
