The drivers were on a minidisk, which is why the star came along. They should be available for easy download without having to search the web. It took a few reboots to get it working properly, but it does what it's supposed to. So it's not exactly plug and play, but it didn't require any kind of hack to make it work. In general, the speed is acceptable, the software works well, and for the price - very good.
