Very happy with this unit. I wanted to replace the existing small lightbulbs in two places. They were only 7 years old and fairly modern, but they used small expensive bulbs, produced a lot of heat for the kitchen and used 175 watts. I liked the idea of the 10.8W LED block. Out of the box this is slim, light and good looking - although I have to get on my knees to see it, it would be fine outdoors too. I bought one to test and a few weeks later I bought another because the first one impressed me. Installing the new unit was easier than removing the old one and the instructions were clear enough. I have a direct connection with three wires coming out of the wall, but you can also get a connection kit. Two very nice features make pre-wiring installation easy. First, it's a connection. Instead of cumbersome wire nuts to connect and having to disassemble and then reassemble the device to connect (like the one I took off), the wire ends have press-fit connections on the ends of the three wires. So just plug in the right cable. There is only one spot where you have to remove a tiny access box with a screw to get to it. The final install is a little tricky to work in there and install the final bits of wire, but this will be the case when replacing such a device and patience will help. Another feature is two "captive" mounting screws on each end to secure the unit to the bottom of the cabinet. It sits inside the device so you don't have to fiddle with a loose screw to get it in - very easy. The device works well, gives a lot of light and so far so good. I'll put a dimmer on the wall if we need less light. The only problem with the device is that the light is slightly bluer (at 3000K) than an incandescent bulb, but that's only noticeable when you have two incandescent bulbs in the same room to compare, as we've been doing for a while. Second, LEDs are not interchangeable, as are most LED lights that use strips instead of incandescent bulbs. But its estimated lifespan is 35,000 hours, which is pretty reasonable. Also, I tried some of the G8 LED bulbs in an existing block and they burned out within a month or two. It would be better if you replaced them all so there is no heat, but $8-9 per bulb is a big investment if the bulbs have a short life - they are rated at 3000 hours. So let's see how long it lasts, but their estimate is 4 years of continuous use, which probably means 16 years of actual use. UPDATE - 01/17/17; Last week one of the two units went offline. I called American Lighting's toll free number, got an immediate response and they said they would need a receipt or proof of purchase and then they would verify and contact me. I asked if I could email Revain PDFs for purchase and they said it was fine. Did it the same day and the next day I got an email that the 5 year warranty was still valid and that they would ship it out on Friday in 3 days. Received today, installed, everything is fine. One of my best problem solving experiences, confirming my 5 star rating.
