I have used these to cut trapezoidal inserts into a 12 inch radius granadillo fingerboard. I ordered a stainless steel trapezoidal template from interwebz. I placed it on the fretboard and used a lathe tool with a milling base. Slowly ream the cavity to a depth of approximately 0.0625". By reducing the speed of the drill you can find a middle ground that is too slow to cut steel but still fast enough to cut wood. This will shake the steel template a bit, but it will still hold its shape and be usable. Just use your ears and hear when the club hits the steel, then back away a little. Take your time and vacuum along the way so you can see. Works perfectly. I was able to do the entire neck without breaking a bit. I used the second smallest so I can get tight corners. These beats are perfect for that.
