I am allergic and very cold weather can cause a runny nose on long runs. I tie a knot at the corner of the handkerchief and tuck it under the running belt (holds the phone); There is less chance of accidentally falling down along with the knot. Another unrelated use for handkerchiefs is that they fit easily into the hole of a flute cleaning rod and are just the right thickness for that.
