Too long rope is best in scratching posts

We were so lucky to be at home because the cat made as much scream as possible and we ran. A fluffy ball on a taut rope flipped and wrapped itself around a 9-week-old kitten, causing it to suffocate. We decided to shorten the string and replace it with an unstretched string instead of a retrace. If it doesn't work we will return it. Oh yes, the kitty loves balls. I might as well decide to call the company.
