Despite the mixed reviews for this toilet lock, I bought two to match the fairly standard toilets in my house. Installation took less than two minutes and I had no problem reaching for the toilet to complete the installation. You don't have to get dirty in the water or otherwise get too close to the dirt. Even a little soap and water can go a long way if you're not too picky about poop (if you have kids and haven't gotten rid of it yet...you could have OCD). I am sure that in some situations the lock would break if subjected to repeated or significant force, but my 13 month old cannot open it. In any case, I try to discourage her from playing near the toilet, more through education than shenanigans, but the lock gives me peace of mind that she won't make a mess or get hurt if she's under my gaze. I'm only giving 4 stars due to the perceived likelihood of the lock failing or breaking under normal use (e.g. underside. There are a few chips and dents along the edge of the seat where parts of the lock can be pushed between the seat and the rim of the bowl with some force getting trapped when people are sitting on the toilet please don't comment that I'm being too harsh I say the product was stolen only for the money it's worth but it's not perfect and 4/5 seems fair to me .
