I specifically chose this model for its compact, heavy base and low price. I've owned many mic stands over the years, mostly in tripod form. This is a great stand for $30 or so. Great for PA use, home recording, etc. The only things you need to know, depending on what you want: 1) Yes, the telescopic part is thinner than more expensive options (see pic with lighter for comparison). Probably not strong enough for the street, but for the price you can just buy parts if you're not Van Halen. I have an SM58 in the photo, but it had no trouble with a d-pad condenser mic either. 2) I haven't damaged mine and there is a warning sticker - but I can see how you could pull the threads off the clutch. It takes more turns to tighten it than I thought it would, so I see how you can just go ahead and spoil everyone's fun. Would buy again! EDIT: This wasn't my SM-58, it was one of my SM-57s that ended up in the final draft of this review when we were still two years innocent. But here is my update. Still use this mic stand at least a few times a month. 6 stars; Use it wisely and heck it can last at least 10 years.
