I only bought it to dress up my tailcoat. I have no idea if that helps with the noise because I don't think I've ever heard any noise from there. It looks a lot better, just how I wanted it. Attaching "hooks/screws/whatever" is a little silly, but instead of trying to figure it out, I found that simply tightening the work up did the job, even if it didn't seem like it. I also filled in the cheap duct tape with much more malleable duct tape in almost every place where the mat touched the metal. no sag in the middle, it definitely did what I wanted it to do.
