Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good for the price, works as advertised - technically 4k but I wouldn't use it for that.

This has been my workhorse since the pandemic began - my "Doc" was left at the office which was closed is. Before that, they were rarely used. Bought in 2018. It still works fine. I'm not entirely sure about the performance. It seems to power a 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro well (the battery doesn't drain even under heavy use), but plugging in a charger directly charges it faster. Not that big of a problem if the laptop spends most of its time on the network. Port layouts range from convenient to cumbersome, depending on your use case. I would have preferred the traditional "inline" arrangement (if not for something else), but if you need an adapter to carry in your pocket, this form factor is it much better. Now for the main reason I'm writing this: I've replaced my monitor (previously used a 2560 x 1440 29"@60Hz ultrawide with no problems. I've replaced it with a 34" ultrawide at 3440 x 1440 (technically UWQHD or 1440p, not 4k) replaced). Originally OSX only wanted 2560 x 1440 at 60Hz. Tried different cables (including the one that came with the monitor) to no avail. With SwitchResX I managed to get it working at 3440 x 1440 at 45Hz, which is barely acceptable. "Everything looks noticeably choppy, but it's bearable. I wasn't expecting it to be able to run at 144Hz anyway. It's actually a good result. In theory, HDMI 1.4 allows 3440 x 1440 at 50Hz. Given some inefficiencies in the real world and the 45Hz i Looks ok now, I *can't imagine* running at 30Hz (like the advertised 3840x2160 at 30Hz) Seriously, if you need to run at 4k, get a cable or adapter p USB -C-DisplayPort unless it is intended for very infrequent use to improve performance.

Pros
  • HDMI USBC Dock adds Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, HDMI and 80W charging power over a single USB-C connection; Bus Powered USB C HDMI Hub Adapter works with or without a USB charger; The HDMI USB-C Dock supports USB Type-C power delivery to charge your laptop up to 80W while in use; The USB-C PD charge port on the USB-C multiport adapter also supports data transfer for a USB-C device
