Seeing the cute packaging and bright colors on all social networks, I bought this set of Chemi Gouache at a very reasonable price. I was so excited until I took it out of the box and set it up. Colors are instantly bright and vibrant, but the chemical smell is unbearable. I tried to use them several times but couldn't stand to use them for long. The smell was enough to give me a headache that turned into a migraine and I couldn't use it anymore. I don't know if it was a bad batch but I saw other reviews complaining about the same thing. I was so disappointed! For the price they are really for basic use or beginners. I also wouldn't recommend using expensive brushes with this set - it smudged and ruined one of my acrylic brushes with minimal use. This set comes in a cute case and bright colors, but the paint itself is not of the best quality. It is intended for student work. I've seen many artists use this product and create beautiful original pieces, but how long will they last? It may be an improvement over Michael's and Royal & Langnickel Student Kits, but they hardly compare to other products available. The color is also not fade resistant, which means that if exposed to sunlight for too long, the colors will eventually fade completely. If you're trying to paint with a palette based on more basic colors, it doesn't provide a good base set without having to mix multiple colors. For the regular price, I would advise looking for other options. Arteza, Turner, and Holbein (the most expensive brand) are some really common options that many artists and students use. For around the same price, Arteza has printed a lightfastness rating right on the tubes of paint! At the prices of these other brands, you get more colors with better quality, fade resistance, and a better experience. I would only buy this set if you want something super useless and trendy.
