Rubbermaid products sold in retail shops used to last forever - now they have been replaced by inferior, flimsy plastic brands like Sterlite. You're lucky if they last a year without cracking or splitting and then end up in the trash! . I have a trash can from another company. While they look the same at first glance, I can see light through the sides of the cheaper one. But the commercial line, as before, is Rubbermaid. Very strong, particularly vulnerable corners that can tear. Smooth, rounded inner bottom corners and side edges make cleaning easier. Rounded edges increase strength and make lifting easier. The small size can be placed next to a chair, under a table or on a post table and easily transferred to a large recyclable container. Holds a few refolded newspapers, a dozen cans, or one day's junk mail dump. Sure it's more expensive, but how often are you going to replace crappy big-box brands? Buy multiple packs and share the cost with friends and family (I even gave some away as new ones ;) - with gifts hidden inside! Very cute "decorative" packaging!)
