More like a bubbler.I also really like that you can adjust what kind of spray pattern you want; this is helpful depending on how deep or wide your birdbath is.JUST KNOW: You can't completely set it and forget it! Birds love clean, and this will last longer if check it once a week. You need to commit to cleaning general debris from outside the water intake. You can give it a light disinfection by using a 1:1 mix of water and white vinegar.I know some fellow bird lovers and for the price I am going to pick some up as gifts.
