Works better as output surge arrester

best at source of shock. The closer you get to that with a spark gap, the more likely it is that everything behind will be protected. I added this to my terrestrial TV antenna on the mast very close to the antenna with a large ground wire to the ground rod at the base of the mast. I chose this because of the stainless steel construction and interchangeable washers. The ground wire screw is a little flimsy but works. It can be replaced for pennies at a hardware store with a stainless steel metric hex cap for more reliability.
