I started karate as an adult and it was difficult for me to save. I was afraid of hurting myself or someone else. I started with a different leg guard and no shin guards. You are much better. They stay in place and don't slip on your foot. The lower part of the foot has cotton elastic worn over single toes. They cover my legs and don't blister anywhere. The legs and shins have velcro straps at the ankles so they can be separated if needed. They distribute the blue color evenly so I don't have to worry about hurting my foot or block. I would recommend it to everyone. Especially if you are afraid of sparring.
