They are comfortable but too thin for welding in my opinion. You can feel the heat emanating from the arc and if you bring a piece of steel close to the weld you will definitely feel the heat through your skin. I use other regular cowhide leather gloves for working with steel I have just welded and also for welding, I have never had a problem with the feeling that I am about to burn my fingers. I noticed that the spark burned a small hole in the skin on the second use.
