Review on 🌐 Enhance Your Online Connectivity with Netgear RT311 DSL/Cable Internet Gateway Router by Robert Morrison

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very good computers and accessories

I actually have an RT314 that integrates an RT311 with a 4-port switch (Note on switches and hubs. The hub shares bandwidth between attached devices. So if You have one computer connected to the Internet through a hub and a second computer connected to a third computer through a LAN to transfer files, the total speed between them is no more than 100 Mbit / s ( full bandwidth communication). Anyway, this is a great device. I took it out of the box, plugged in the cables and everything worked right away. I'm sharing wired Internet between a Windows 2000 box and a PowerMac (running OS9 and DAVE 2.5 ) with no problems. It gives 4 stars because the web interface is really completely useless. To properly set up this device (including some very cool dynamic DNS functions), you must connect to the box via telnet. Not a *big* deal, but still a minor annoyance. There's no reason why the web interface couldn't work with these other configuration options as well. I looked at the Linksys box, which is very similar in features, but a search of the Usenet archives showed the Netgear to be a much more reliable device.

Pros
  • FirstGear wizard provides quick installation
Cons
  • Annoying
