Let me start by saying that I'm excited about the little camcorder I built for my 5D3. This method of building a custom rig will never be the cheapest or even the best option (in terms of amount of material for your money), but when it comes to getting a rig that perfectly suits your mental abilities. Scheme is the only way. There are other brands that offer components that can be mixed and matched with Smallrig parts and while I don't have much experience with them I know that what I've seen in the Smallrig world so far draws me to that Conclusion that they make a huge range of quality parts at an affordable price. Add to that the fact that they let their customers manage their R&D program, strictly following their opinions and requirements when it comes to what new parts they should produce and you have a customer-centric company I think of that it will go a long way to become a leading player in its field. A limitation. Make sure you plan and estimate your entire setup (down to the smallest part) before you start buying because I guarantee you will forget the elements and underestimate the total cost before you start. As long as you have the budget, you can use Smallrig to create a totally cool, fully customizable and personalized rig for your video or photo needs. Components used in my setup: Smallrig 1750 is a professional camera cage. Stem - 20cm 8" Long Composite Finish (Unthreaded 2pcs) Smallrig 1061 - 2 x DSLR Camera Stem Grips Leather Grip with Clip for 15mm Stem (Black) Smallrig 1053 - Aluminum Alloy Stems 15mm 30 cm long, 12" (M12-30 cm) (2pcs) Haoge 50mm QR quick release adapter with 60mm plate (Arca-Swiss compatible) Fotyrig camera grip on top Cheese grip with mount for cold shoe / 4" to 3/ 8" threaded adapter for attaching things to the cage. Total was just over $320, but I now have a fully custom rig that seems perfectly fine to me (although I'm a beginner) and I've had good feedback from Received from others who have seen it in terms of casting functionality and stability.I need to add a little more to give me a shoulder rest. But overall I'm happy with the end result!I have specially QR clips in the cage below installed the camera removing en the camera without having to disassemble the entire cage. I use a cold shoe to attach the top of the camera to the top plate of the cage and add rigidity, but this makes removal a bit more difficult. I then attached an ARCA plate from the QR clip underneath the cage so I can instantly attach the rig to my tripod if I need to do a panorama shot etc. The grips use 8-inch carbon rods - two halves that sit in the grip clamp, but disembark without removing a grip from the rig. The handles are retractable to save space when packing. Please like this review if you found the information here helpful. Thanks very much!
