Review on πŸͺŸ 5"x7" Charcoal Window Screen Repair Kit - Includes 2 Patches by Corey Katchem

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Best for attaching dark window grilles. Flexible material is hard.

My results were mixed, but the bottom line is that I used it when going through a screen door. It uses magnets to close in the center and is made from a very flexible, thin fiberglass fabric. Because of this flexibility and frequent movement, the patches often had to move. Instructions say to use a hair dryer set on a high volume of hot air and hold it 1 inch from the patch. The high setting of this hairdryer's heat was so hot it often melted the fabric, so I used a low setting and kept the fan nozzle moving to avoid putting out excessive heat in one spot. Heavier screen material (such as window grilles) that does not flex or move is better suited to mounting with this product. For thicker screen material, I recommend the constant motion method with the blow dryer set to high. It works by trapping a very small amount of hard glue (which liquifies when heat is applied - similar to a glue gun) in the mesh. holes. The patch will not stick to a vertical surface if you tie it down before heating it, so you'll either have to lay the patch flat or find a way to hold the patch in place while you heat it with a hair dryer. (I used a chopstick to press/hold the patch in place). Finally, the patch applied is not invisible and there is a noticeably darker area where it is used. Updated 11/20/17. for a failed patch after some time.
