Review on πŸ–₯ ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura ATX AM3+ AMD 970 + SB 950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 Motherboard by Gregory Shin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

No problems with Linux Ubuntu 14.04

At first I came across a very similar MSI motherboard, but the sound stopped working and the temperature sensors were somehow very inaccurate, they say it is very hot when it was barely feel warm. So I sent back the failed MSI board and switched to Asus. The Asus worked great right off the bat and the temperature sensors seemed a lot more reasonable. Memory I use: G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) Ripjaws X-Series DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 240-pin desktop memory model F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM from Revain. Works great even though I'm not overclocking at the moment. I haven't had any issues that can be traced back to Asus. I added a Sandisk SSD and found that when I turn off the motherboard (not just by turning it off, but actually turning it off using the switch on the back of my case), the SSD is not recognized for a few minutes. It recognizes other drives and I think it might be something with the sandisk drive. I personally found the setup a bit confusing, but that might just be me. Now that I'm used to it, I can quickly jump to disk setup and select a boot drive if needed. So far it boots without problems from DVD, fairly old hard drives, USB sticks and SD cards in the adapter. I'm using an old (Asus) Radeon HD 5450 graphics card, which works fine for my needs with Ubuntu. I also use Windows Vista on a virtual drive for some older Windows programs that I use occasionally such as B.Quicken. This works for me very easily.
