Review on ๐Ÿ”Š Sony HTX8500 2.1ch Dolby Atmos/DTS:X Soundbar with Integrated Subwoofer in Black by Josh Zuvers

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Beautiful looks - good performance - bad sound

Listen to other reviews about muffled voice - loud but not great cinema sound of this movie soundbar. However, I didn't get directional room noise even with movies with Dolby Atmos encoded audio. Of course the sound was loud and the bass filled my entire tiny room. However, it sounded like it was coming from the soundbar and no better than the $150 Yamaha NON Atmos soundbar I had. I could live with that, but the voice was just "muffled" in all settings - even the advanced dialog settings for my Sony Bravia 900 series TV and soundbar. I couldn't justify leaving this through the Sony TV's built-in speakers, as I couldn't hear movie or TV dialogue clearly when sending audio through the soundbar. On the bright side (for the soundbar) setup was very easy - all I had to do was plug the power and ARC HDMI connector from the soundbar into the ARC HDMI connector on my TV, the audio was automatically and instantly routed to the Soundbar, and I was immediately able to control the volume with both the soundbar remote and the TV remote. Easy setup. I just wanted the voice quality to get better.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Not as thick as other models
