It was the consistency of water. and didn't work as chalk paint at all. Maybe I'm just used to a folk art style home decor brand? The home decor brand is so thick that you often need to add water. but this American decor brand has a transparent, very light washing consistency. If you are looking for a very light shade of gray on bare wood this might work well but I think you will need a few cans of this product for an opaque result on a small piece of furniture. a good result from gray stain, but only on bare wood. I wouldn't expect it to cover existing trim.
